Always committed to the development of local cyclists, National Cycling Coach, Hassan Mohamed MS, has organized the 2nd Annual Payless Variety Store Cycle Race Programme slated for the inner circuit of the National Park Saturday, October 26, next and several of the nation’s young riders will battle for honours and lucrative prizes.
Activities get underway at 09:00hrs with the boys and girls 12-14 yrs event over 3 laps. Subsequently, there will be several other events including BMX Boys 12-14 yrs, BMX boys 9-12 yrs, BMX Boys 6-9 yrs BMX Boys Open, the BMX Boys Open over 3 Laps and the mountain bikers’ race over 5 laps.
Later on, cycling fans will be treated to the race between the veteran U-50yrs over 5 laps, the veteran over-50yrs over a similar distance, the veteran over-60yrs (5 laps) and the juveniles’ 10 laps event.
Then there is the feature race, the school boys and invitation races over 35 Laps.
The riders will attempt to eclipse several records established at last year’s event including the 35 laps – school boys and invitation race won by Robin Persaud in a time of 1:18:42.19secs. Then there is the record held by Raul Leal for the 10 Laps Juveniles event, completed in 20:48.45secs. Other records that will be targeted include the 5 Laps, veteran U 50 yrs held by Junior Niles in 13:11.05secs, the 5 Laps – mountain biker event won by Nigel Jacobs in 13:04secs and the boys and girls 3 laps race dominated by Alfie Soonaram in 7:11secs.
Activities are sponsored by Payless Variety Store and a representative of that entity will assist in the distribution of prizes at the end of the meet.
