Block 22 flames were quarterbacked by Aubrey Johnson, who scored 16 of his game high 21 points in the fourth quarter, to lead them past Wismar Pistons, while Amelia’s Ward Jets romped past Retrieve Raiders 70-63 as Half Mile Bulls nipped the Bankers Trust Falcons 48-45 in the latest round of matches in the Linden Amateur Basketball Association/ Trophy Stall Regulation Basketball Championship continued at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court over the weekend.
The Flames were held without any points in the third quarter after the Pistons had taken the initiative 14-12 at the end of the first quarter and at half time were leading 24-21. However, after being outscored 8-0 in the pivotal third quarter, the Flames responded with a 29-13 run to win as Johnson took control of things offensively.
Johnson’s 21 points was supported by C. Johnson, who had nine and Kerwin Williams eight.
Mark Louis led the scoring for the Pistons with 14 points and Dwight Coopered added 13 for the losers.
The Jets were ahead at the end of the first quarter 15-9, at half time 34-23 and the third quarter coasting at 52-39 before cruising to the 70-63 eventual score.
They were led by the front court presence of Allister Webster with 16 pints, Shane with 15 and Joel eight. Sheldron Noel was the bright spot for the Raiders with 15 points as Neil Marks had nine and Dauwin Lovell got eight.
On Friday night, the scores were level at 10 at the end of the first quarter, Bulls were up by ten at half time 25-15 before the scores were again knotted at 36 before the Bulls came away to win 58-45
Terron Welch got the leading score for the Bulls with 15 points and Michael Turner added 14 for the winners, while Lawrence DaCosta had 11 and Dale Sauers nine for the losers. Two more matches are slated for tomorrow night as the Bulls play Jets in the first game and Falcons and Raiders clash in the second.
