Dear Editor,
I was an employee of Qualfon when the entity employed just over 200 (two hundred) agents at a supervisory level. My entry in this organization was as a result of my understanding and appreciation of the role this new organization could play in making a contribution towards development and at the same time addressing one of the ills of our society: Youth unemployment.
My stint was short lived because the organization that held so much hope has proved to be a disappointment to me and many other young people primarily because of poor pay, unclear systems of management and an administration that was out of touch with proper industrial relations practices and good business management and administration.
Should a study be done, I am sure it will show that Qualfon, since its introduction in the country has the highest attrition rate amongst private sector entities.
Many then and today feel that the presence of union representation could be the answer to many of the things faced by the workers.
Local Vendors: electrician plumbers and many food vendors that sell outside the establishment, canteen service providers, transportation service providers etc have all had at varying levels have had a taste of one official’s ignorance in dealing with them over the years. Is this the way one should treat people? As I understand it, one vendor in the area of transportation is seeking redress in the Court after years of service and the way in which his service came to an end.
At present, I understand, Mexico has acted and has placed someone above this official. I hope this development will result in an approach that will address the aforementioned issues. As a young person, my aim was and still is to work in an environment that will contribute to the realization of my full potential; but what obtains at Qualfon is certainly not such an environment.
Unions should be invited to discuss with workers the possibility of representation.
Further, in the interest of the Company, contracts entered into during the period of this official’s stewardship, including rental should be investigated with a view to determining if there was acts of nepotism and conflict of interest.
Mr. Editor, the aforementioned, if addressed, would certainly bring about real chance for the betterment at Qualfon.
Former employee
