‘It was like ghost rider come alive’ – Eyewitness
The owner of a motorcycle got more than he bargained for yesterday after his entire mode of transportation became engulfed in flames at a welding shop.
According to an eyewitness, around 12:30 pm yesterday, one of the welders was attending to a motorcycle at the front of the shop.
“I been at the corner of the road with some of the boys and when I look up the road I see a set a people running from the shop. When I go and investigate I see the whole bike pon fire,” the man said.
He added that while persons began to throw water on the motorcycle, others began to look on as the bike became a big fire ball.
“It was like Ghost Rider come alive. The fire was red hot; the smoke was black it took no time to bun out,” the man said.
They believed that something might have come into contact with the spark and caused the fire.
Another eyewitness Shellon Marcus said that the owner had taken the motorcycle to weld a cracked exhaust.
“The boy came to the shop and ask the man how much to weld the exhaust and he get the welding thing and like about 10 minutes after he start welding the thing the bike start ketch a fire,” Marcus said.
She added that the welder “ran for his life”.
The woman added that the fire service acted promptly and was able to contain the blaze before it spread to the nearby building.
When Kaieteur News arrived yesterday at the welding shop located at the corner of Light Street and North Road, the bike was parked at the spot where it was being repaired.
The proprietor of the established was not there. The owner of the bike appeared still in shock and related that he was not able to speak about the incident.
