Magistrate Sunil Scarce, yesterday, denied bail to the 51-year-old who is accused of raping his daughter. The Magistrate also took into consideration that the 17-year-old victim remains an occupant of the home.
The man was not required to enter a plea to the indictable rape charge, which was read to him, at the Charity Magistrate’s court, in camera, on Monday 8.
Standing from the dock the accused said, “I did not commit the act.” He was however cautioned by Scarce not to say anything further.
According to the police between April and May 2013, at Friendship, in the Lower Pomeroon, the man repeatedly had sex with his eldest daughter.
The wife of the accused, his mother and the victim were present in court.
According to reports, the man’s wife is contending that she doesn’t want a prolonged proceeding court matter since she suffers from Hypertension and Cholesterol ailments.
She added that her daughter exhibits rude behaviour towards her and should have taken some responsibility and at least confided in an adult.
She said that she was not aware of the rape allegation although they all share the same home.
The incident began almost two years ago.
Police Prosecutor, Kristen Ramana objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the offence and noting the possibility exists that the accused would have likely tampered with the witness, since they shared the same home.
