in cash, trophies and medals.
Consequently, Treasurer of the GCF, Ryan Singh, visited the business place of the sponsor on Saturday June 22 last where Mrs. Devi Sunich acted on behalf of the sponsor and handed over a cheque of that amount to facilitate the successful staging of the competition. The GCF executive expressed deep gratitude for such chivalry and assured Mr. Sunich that his benevolence is truly appreciated. “On behalf of the executives of the Guyana Chess Federation I would like to extend sincere gratitude to the management of the Trophy Stall for re-affirming its support to the growth of local chess; naturally we look forward to its continued partnership in the future,” exhorted Mr. Singh.
Initially, organizers had planned to play the inaugural DDL/Caricom Team Tournament over the Caricom weekend but have decided to re-schedule this championship for November.
All senior and junior chess players are eligible for participation and the registration process starts at 09:00hrs on tournament day at the playing venue. Thereafter, activities get underway at 10:00hrs sharp. The players will battle over seven rounds with the first two rounds being contested on the opening day. Rounds three and four will be played on Caricom Day, Monday July 1, while round five will get underway on Thursday July 4 at 17:30hrs. The final two rounds will be contested on Sunday July 7, also from 10:00hrs followed by presentation of prizes.
Players are asked to walk with a pen to record moves and each participant would be allotted 90 minutes during each round plus 30 seconds increment beginning from the first move. The registration fee for non-members of the Federation is $600 for junior players and $800 for senior players. Members would pay a reduced fee.
