Police ‘A’ Team strolled to comfortable overall victory Sunday morning in the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) World Olympic Day 10km Road Race that started and ended at the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), Thomas Lands.
Argentine Ambassador to Guyana, Luis Alberto Martino started the event that Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Track Club, Cleveland Forde controlled, but was literally a one-man army against a plethora of Police athletes who finished among the top five.

Linden, went out hard, pacing the race, which separated him from the pack. Police’s Kevin Bayley joined the attack on Forde at around Conversation Tree on the Rupert Craig Highway.
However, Forde made his move midway on the route back to YMCA along with Police’s Dennis Horatio, who was sitting with Forde behind the Giddings/Bayley pack. Forde, as he is so used to doing, finished with a gust of speed to win ahead of the Police trio, Horatio, Giddings and Bayley in that order.
In the female race, Alika Morgan crossed the finish line ahead of Ashanti Scott from the Guyana Defence Force. Police ‘A’ team, which consisted of Horatio, Giddings, Bayley, Jerome Johnson, Adama Roberts and Jonella Jonas pocketed $60,000 from claiming the top prize in a total time of 3hrs 58mins.
The Defence Force team of Forde, Scott, Tyshon Bentick, Jamal Evans, Jamoul Chisholm and Karlissa Atkinson finished second and took home $42,000 in a total time of four hours; Linden’s Christianburg/Wismar Secondary School that comprised, Cassey George, Cassie Kirton, Orlando Adams, Stephan Crow, Kelon and Kevin Nicolas received $30,000 for finishing third.
The GOA 10km walk/jog forced participation from a wide cross-section of associations and athletes with table tennis star, Chelsea Edghill, Deputy PS within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Steve Ninvalle among those who represented.
