The body of an eight-month-old boy, with the throat slit, was discovered in a clump of bushes in Olive Creek, Enachu, Region Seven yesterday. The child was reportedly missing since Monday last.
Reports reveal that the mother of the child may have used a nail file to slash the baby’s throat. It is believed that the woman committed the act at Tamakay Landing, some 32 kilometres (20 miles) away, before taking the body by boat to the location where the body was found.
Police apprehended the woman who is said to be in her mid-twenties and a resident of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara.
Initials reports also disclosed that the woman had kept the baby until it started to decompose. She then decided to dump the corpse.
Investigations are continuing.
