Defending champions Eagles according to early predictions will be hard pressed to
(Flashback)- Some of the action that is usually associated with the ‘Guinness Greatest of the Streets’ Football Festival.
retain their crown in this year’s Linden’s segment of the ‘Guinness Greatest of the Streets’ Competition which is scheduled to commence on April 1 and concludes on May 5, at the Wisroc Amelia’s Ward Bus Park.
According to a release from the Organisers, this year will see 32 teams including Ituni contest the competition which has grown in popularity since it was first initiated in Guyana in 2008 in Georgetown.
In last year’s final, Eagles defeated Retrieve Unknowns with Trenton Bangray being voted Most Valuable Player.
The release further stated that matches will also be played at the Silvercity Hardcourt, New Silvercity Secondary School Hardcourt and Amelia’s Ward Hardcourt.
So far, players’ response has been encouraging and teams have already started intense preparations so that fans will be able to witness top class exhibition of skills in the exciting format of the sport.
It was also disclosed that the response from the community has been positive with members of the transportation sector and business entity, all expressing gratitude to the Organisers for brining the competition to the community since it helps to increase their profits within their respective endeavours.
It was further mentioned that overseas based Lindeners use the Festival as a form of community reunion.
