Feature race has $1M on offer for winner
The Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) holds the distinction of staging exciting meets and horse owners, jockeys and turfites have grown so accustomed to the quality races that they prepare ardently for the occasion. These principals are once again getting ready for similar action and excitement when that organization stages its Phagwah meet at its Bush Lot Farm Corentyne venue on Sunday March 11 next.
Once again, the nation’s best horses as well as those born and bred in other Caribbean countries will grace the starting line for highly competitive races. The feature attraction pits animals in the ‘B’ and Lower Class over a distance of 7 furlongs with a first prize of $1M. This event is sponsored by Jumbo Jet Auto Sales.
Several other events are slated for the day starting with the G and Lower Class over a distance of 7 furlongs. The winner will cart off $300,000.
Then there is the I2 and lower Class event over a distance of 6 furlongs where the winner collects $160,000.
Several other races are expected to whet the appetites of lovers of the sport including the race among the 3 years old animals, the J and Lower division and the D1 and Lower category.
Meanwhile, the organizers have assured that the meet will comprise of qualitative races and turfites have been assured of intense action.
This was further enforced with improved track conditions. Further, a stable of well-bred animals will be on show. The organizers wish to remind horse owners that the event is being conducted under the aegis of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA) and that all of the rules would be applicable.
The registration period ends today and late entries will not be accepted. Horse owners may also register their animals with Dr Dwight Waldron (645-2848), Justice Cecil Kennard (226-1399, 225-4818, or 623-7609) or Roopnarine Matadial aka Shine (325-3192). They are also asked to have their animals examined by the vet by 11:00hrs on race day.
