The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport has expressed its appreciation on the support of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) it has set up to look into the problems plaguing local cricket.
In a release from Mr. David Thompson, Administrative Assistant within the ministry, it stated that, “The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport places on record its appreciation for the support extended, in principle, by the Political Coalition APNU (A Partnership for National Unity) for the Interim Management Committee (IMC) being established by the Ministry.
The Ministry commends, APNU for its analyses and understanding of the variety of factors”, which has led seemingly to the utter mal-administration of Guyana’s national game of cricket. The APNU call for “a more broad-based” is also noted.”
The release further stated that, “One of the functions of the IMC would surely be consider such recommendations as put forward by the APNU, including a perusal and implementation of APNU’s five (5) “pillars” on which “a solution to the crisis in cricket in Guyana” should be based.”
“In passing, since the issue is national in proportion, the Ministry would also welcome principled support for the IMC from the Alliance For Change (AFC) Party which went public early on, through certain members, though in a somewhat discordant mode,” it stated.
The release noted that Guyana’s Parliament would have to look and determine what systems are put in place to ensure the sport is properly administered and the suggestions of the political parties on the way forward would by crucial.
“The conclusions of the IMC’s work will, after all, be presented to Guyana’s Parliament for ultimate scrutiny and approval. It would be therefore appropriate and desirable for all the Parliamentary political parties to seek some prior consensus for the IMC’s deliberations and recommendations.”
