Minister of Sport Dr Frank Anthony, Permanent Secretary, Mr. Alfred King and Members of Staff of the Ministry especially the National Sports Commission have expressed their condolences following the passing of National footballer Shawn Bishop.
The ministry noted the contribution of Bishop and called on the younger players to use his dedication to the sport as a model to pattern themselves. The full text of the Minister’s message is:
“On behalf of the Minister of Culture, Youth and sport, Honourable Dr. Frank Anthony the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Alfred King, the Members of Staff of the Ministry especially the National Sports Commission and on my own behalf along with my family, I take this opportunity to extend profound condolences to the family, relatives and friends of the late Shawn Bishop at this time of mourning.”
“Shawn ‘Fatso’ Bishop was an outstanding Senior National Footballer who was a very popular player that had a very successful career. He launched his International career by representing Guyana at the 1997 Inter Guiana Games held in Georgetown, Guyana. Shawn played very well as Guyana won the tournament involving Suriname and French Guiana.”
“Shawn ‘Fatso’ Bishop will be sorely missed on the playing fields in Guyana and I would like to encourage upcoming players to use him as an example of using discipline to gain success.
May he rest in eternal peace.”
