A 25 year old minibus conductor was on Thursday given six stipulations for his pre-trial liberty after he was charged with carnal knowledge of a girl under 12 years old.
The West Ruimveldt resident appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine – Beharry where he was able to attain bail to the tune of $250,000.
It is alleged that between January 1, 1999 and December 31 2003, the conductor had sexual intercourse with the minor who hailed from the West Bank of Demerara.
According to the father of the child during this period his daughter had been traumatized by the whole ordeal. The man claimed that the incident was over bearing for his child. He said the girl was unable to complete her Common Entrance Examinations.
After being able to secure the pre-trial fee, the court ordered that the accused man follow six conditions as to maintain the peace of the victim.
The defendant was told that he is to report every Friday to the Brickdam Police Station, to remain in Guyana, to hand in his Republic of Guyana passport; that neither he nor his associates are permitted to contact the girl; that he is not allowed in the immediate location of the girl or her community and lastly that he not communicate with and further harass the victim. A breach of any of these stipulations would cause the immediate arrest of the defendant.
The bus operator, who is expected back in court on January 12, will appear in court three before the newly appointed court three magistrate, Judy Latchman. The magistrate will commence the preliminary inquiry (PI) into the matter on the given date.
