APEX Insurance Brokers Rapid Chess Tournament fixed for this Sunday
Following a successful year of activities in 2011, officials of the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) will commence activities with the Apex Insurance Brokers one-day rapid chess tournament at the Keishar’s Sports Club, 1 Hadfield Street Werk-en-Rust on Sunday January 8.Activities get underway at 09:00hrs with the registration period and subsequently the tournament will get underway half hour later. The tournament will be played over seven rounds and all senior and junior players are invited.
Players would each have 20 minutes for every round to complete their game with each round lasting 40 minutes. The Federation would be providing chess clocks and players with tournament size chess sets are asked to bring those along. Trophies and cash prizes would be awarded to the first three places while another trophy would be awarded to the best player 13 years old and under.
Registration fee is $300 for juniors and $500 for seniors, while registered members of the GCF would pay a reduced fee. Members are advised to renew their membership for 2012 at the tournament venue. The membership fee is $1,000 per year for juniors (under 18 years old) and $2,000 for adults.
