For the first time in the history of politics in the Caribbean, General Elections will be simultaneously held in territories-Guyana and St Lucia.
The people of Guyana and St Lucia will go to the polls to elect their respective governments for the next five years in what political observers are predicting will be very close contests.
In Guyana, the ruling People’s Progressive Party Civic is seeking to maintain its hold on power after 19 years.
Over in St Lucia, the United Workers Party, led by Prime Minister Stephenson King, is seeking to brush aside the main opposition St Lucia Labour Party (SLP) and secure a second consecutive five-year term.
In both countries, the elections will be monitored by teams from the CARICOM Secretariat, the Washington-based Organization of American States and the London-based Commonwealth Secretariat.
