The President’s X1 made 124-1 in 25.3 overs replying to Essequibo’s total of 120 to hand themselves victory at DCC yesterday in the second round of Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) four-team El Dorado 50-over Cricket Tournament to keep their title hopes alive.
Only three Essequibo batsmen- Herry Green (37), Kevin Boodie (38) and Norwayne Federicks (16)-were able to reach double figures as Essequibo were bowled out in 34 overs. Both Green and Boodie were trapped LBW after Boodie struck three sixes with a four, Green lashed four fours.
Steven Jacobs took 4-20 to join fellow off-spinner Zaheer Mohamed as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker while Sewnarine Chattergoon had 3-9 and Deon Ferrier 2-8.
West Indies under-19 pacer Ronsford Beaton removed Artley Bailey cheaply but Chattergoon (53*) and Chanderpaul Hemraj (56*) joined forces to see their team to a comprehensive win.
Chattergoon, one of two players with Test cricket experience in the side, hit five fours with two sixes from 71 balls, while Hemraj, a stand-by for the West Indies under-19 side which tours India later this month, lashed seven fours and two sixes from the 65 balls he faced.
