Dear Editor,
It was with a sense of amusement and shock that I read an article in the sports section of the Guyana Times under the headline “black intends to move to Court – say Hilbert Foster the mastermind behind his expulsion”. While Mr. Black was free to do what he wants to remain in his position, the Guyana Times was unprofessional in quoting him saying that the Berbice Cricket Board Public Relations Officer was the one behind his expulsion.
As Secretary of the Berbice Cricket Board, I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Hilbert Foster and over the last four years I have observed at first hand his dedication and hard work for Berbice Cricket.
His work, vision and passion was unmatched by any other cricket administrator in Guyana and Mr. David Black should not waste his time blaming him but should work hard to emulate him. The Mr. Foster that I knew do not waste his time in such schemes but rather in raising over $12M for the Berbice Cricket Board and organising over 200 off the field activities over the last four years.
A total of seventeen delegates drawn from Blairmont, Bermine, Mt Sinai, Berbice River, Rose Hall Canje, Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, Young Warriors, Whim, Port Mourant, Kildonan and Upper Corentyne voted for Mr. Black’s removal as the 1st Vice President and it was simply unbelievable and ridiculous that the delegates can be described as being closely affiliated with Mr. Foster. The facts of the matter were presented to the delegates and Mr. Black was given adequate time to defend himself after which the delegated voted after most said that they have lost all trust in Mr. Black and they are not comfortable working with him.
Mr. Foster is highly respected by the majority of clubs in Berbice, he did not seek to influence anyone and the writer of the article should have checked with the different clubs and sub-associations before rushing to press. Mr. Foster, if he should so decide can seek damages in the Courts but being the person he is, would not.
I would like the general public to know that Mr. Foster is not an Executive Member of the Board, does not attend Executive Meetings, nor do not vote on matters relating to Berbice Cricket. Mr. Black was fully aware of this and would even know that the Public Relations Officer was not present at any meetings when discussions were made concerning the GCB-AGM and to sanction Mr. Black. The Guyana Times and David Black owe the Berbice Cricket Board’s Public Relations Officer an apology.
The former Vice President should be more concern why over 2/3 of Berbice Cricket Board’s delegates have lost confidence in him and why all of the clubs named above are in his words “closely affiliated with Mr. Foster”. For the records, Mr. Editor, Mr. Hilbert Foster was the only senior Berbice Cricket Board member who was prepared to forgive Mr. Black as in his words “to err is human”.
