Exceptional Karate Grading at the YMCA
Shihan Frank Woon-a-Tai 9th degree Black Belt successfully climaxed another visit to Guyana with an explosive Karate examination at the YMCA Thomas Lands on Sunday August 7 hosted by the Guyana Karate College.
Forty-three (43) students from Albion, New Amsterdam, Linden, Land of Canaan and Georgetown were outstanding and skipped a Grade. A total of 11 students were promoted to 1st Dan Black Belt.
Kudos was extended to the Instructors Hazrat Ali of Albion, Clinton Moriah of New Amsterdam Berbice, Nathalie Gibson of Linden, Parmeshwar Persaud of Land of Canaan as well as the Georgetown Instructors.
Some 117 students took part in the Karate Grading examinations which took over 6 hours to complete. The results are as follows:
22 new 8th KYU students (yellow); 27 new 7th KYU students (orange); 19 new 6th KYU students (green); 13 new 5th KYU students (blue); 6 new 4th KYU students (purple); 5 new 3rd KYU students (brown); 9 new 2nd KYU students (brown); 5 new 1st KYU students (brown); 11 new Shodan students (1st Dan Black).

A release from the organization extended congratulations to the new Black Belts students who had endure the heat and long wait to perform their exam which saw them doing not one but six Katas, their basics and sparring and at the end had to do push-ups and sit-ups till they dropped.
Their ages ranged from 8 years to 42 years – Brittany Singh, Theresa Sampat, Jason Singh. Brandt Fernandes, John Singh, Mucan Akpan, Prince Alguedowan, Tiffany Lowe, Darien Dey, Tashana Lowe and Mmunishwar Haitram.
The outstanding KYU students were Abdul Ramsammy, Avery Smith, Dev Persaud, Kris Kumar, Sachin Ramdhani, Emmanuel Manglani and Armand Ramdhani who all moved from beginner to orange.
Dominic Hopkinson, Linburg Pearson, Roy Deyounge, Lakeisha Pearson, Nechemiyah Levans, Jaheim (chow pow) Jardine and Christina Pooran from yellow to green. Cynthia Outar, Afzal Rahim, Dante Ramalho, Jonathan Singh, Shaquille Agard, Anthony Bevaun, Shamar Griffith, Sachin Jones, Joseph Seguina and Orville Critchlow from orange to blue.
Michael Mitchell, Nixon Cheeks and Ron Rambajan from green to purple. Annalisa Chan, Jason Bhaskaran and John Singh Sr. from blue to brown. Tiffany Andrews and Christopher Belfield from purple to 2 brown.

Shihan Woon-a-Tai left Guyana on Wednesday last for Grenada where he will hold Karate exams and be the chief judge of the 9th IKD/CKC Karate Championships.
