OGML made a positive impact on its employees’ lives

Dear Editor,
I take this opportunity to remind the Guyanese population of the Omai Gold Mines Limited (OGML) project and benefits, especially with regards to the transformation of human resource.
I am a former OGML employee who worked several years at the mine site and up to this day, I cannot forget the good memories. I continue to boast of this magnificent project which not only created jobs for our young people in particular, but which molded them to be the persons they are today.
It would not surprise me if your initial thought of me praising OGML is due to the assumption that this may be the only mine and huge private investment I worked. That assumption would be incorrect. I have compared OGML with two other mega mines, in Canada and Africa, and arrived at the conclusion that OGML was one with a bang and one where there was discipline and many opportunities for development of employees.
The feeling was like meeting a new family and one where you learned of different experiences and cultures. Many of the former OGML employees are working with other companies in Guyana and overseas, taking with them the rewarding experiences and discipline they would have gained during their stint.
I am pleased to learn that OGML was purchased recently by a new investor and wish the company well. I have no doubt Guyana will continue to benefit.
To my OGML family, we will continue the regular communication and hopefully, be given an opportunity to visit the mine site one more time, which made a positive impact on our lives.
