The last time that Joel ‘Mr. Majestic’ McRae and Edmond DeClou faced off in the December edition of the Friday night fights, the latter fighter pounded out a split decision verdict over the former even though the loser felt that he had been ‘done in.’
McRae had shrugged aside that disappointment and then went on to defeat ‘Dangerous’ Denny Dalton in another edition of the card and has signed for the return bout against his nemesis. A relatively tall fighter that practices his trade out of Trinidad and Tobago, McRae has vowed to avenge the loss and has even promised that the judges input would be totally unnecessary.
“I was not living the life of a boxer,” McRae proclaimed when quizzed on what had gone wrong in the first meeting. “I was beset with personal problems that caused me to become defocused and so I was unable to give one hundred percent,” continued McRae.
Despite such setbacks, he still believes that he should have been given the verdict. This time around he has promised to relieve the judges of the responsibility of coming up with a winner. “DeClou will not last,” he emphatically stated.
But what evidence is there to support McRae’s boasts? “My record speaks for itself,” he said. Indeed with an 8-1-1 record McRae comes with the kind of stats that could vindicate his intentions. But records may be misleading.
“Not in my case!’ asserted McRae, “I intend to add DeClou to my statistics. Those statistics have McRae stopping five of his opponents with Trinidadian Kevin Neveson suffering the worst fate after he was knocked out with the first punch of the bout. Eon Blue attempted to get passed McRae twice but was knocked out in the 3rd and 4th rounds respectively. Mike Pitman fared no better, succumbing in the second stanza. “Now it is DeClou’s turn to smell the canvas,” McRae brashly proclaimed.
The lanky pugilist has been in training at the Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF) shortly after taking care of Dalton and has recently intensified training sessions with several stiff rounds with Simeon ‘Candyman’ Hardy. Prior to that, he has been honing his skills in at the Marabella Boxing Gym in Trinidad and Tobago. He intimated that he has been engaged in several rounds with top Trinidadian boxer, Kurt Sinnette.
Commenting on his current training regiment, McCrae said that he is rounding off nicely and will be ready for an all out war on Friday July 27.
The ProAm affair is a Guyana Boxing Board of Control initiative in collaboration with the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA), the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and the National Communication Network. Tickets are $1,000 and $500 for adults and children respectively.
