Fitness Express, Specialists in Health and Fitness Products and located at 47 Sheriff & John Streets, Campbellville is the exclusive sponsor of the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPF) 2011 Intermediate and Claude Charles Memorial Championships set for this Sunday at the Saint Stanislaus College Auditorium.
Manager of Fitness Express Jamie Mc Donald handed over the cheque to GAPF Secretary Gordon Spencer on Thursday at the sponsors Store while expressing delight at being on board one of the most successful disciplines in Guyana in the past couple of years.
Mc Donald, who has been supporting other disciplines ever since the business opened its doors less than two years ago, noted the waves Guyana’s strongmen and woman has been making at the Caribbean, Regional and International levels ever since this country’s return to competition at these levels.
He commended Dawn Barker and Randolph Morgan for becoming the first Guyanese, female and male to break into the Commonwealth Record Books.
“I am very pleased to be associated with this sport and it is our small way of giving back to the development of sports and in this case, Powerlifting in Guyana. We are still young in the business but we feel it an honour to be on board with the GAPF for two very important competitions. We wish all the athletes every success on Sunday.”
Fitness Express will provide all the trophies and other prizes. GAPF Secretary Gordon Spencer who accepted the cheque on the federation’s behalf thanked mc Donald and Fitness Express for coming on board at a time when they needed the assistance.
“The Executive and members of the GAPF are very grateful to you Mr. Mc Donald for partnering with us for Sunday’s competitions.
We can assure you that your commitment will be matched by some explosive performances by the athletes come Sunday and on their behalf, I would like to extend sincere gratitude to you.”
Some 21 lifters are expected to compete on Sunday. Meanwhile, the equipment check and weight-in will commence at 08:00hrs with lifting time set for 10:00hrs.
The GAPF has taken a decision not to charge an entrance fee but patrons attending are encouraged to make contributions towards the National team that will be representing Guyana in Miami from July 5.
