May 14, 2011 Letters
Dear Editor,
Saturday 14th May 2011(today) marks the end of International Nurses week, for this year, and while countries the world over took time out to celebrate their nurses I could have hardly noticed, in Guyana, that May 12th was International Nurses Day.
I am not sure if we, only, wanted our hard working ‘Florence Nightingales’ and ‘Floyd Nightingales’ to simply celebrate themselves.
Alternatively, might be so caught up with everything else that we forgot to take time out to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to our nurses for all they continue to do, to improve the total well being of our citizens. Whichever is the reason we would have erred.
However, I believe it is never too late to show appreciation, express love, or gratitude to those who have been, and continue to make valuable contribution in our everyday lives.
So, Mr. Editor please allow me to express my heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to all our nurses, who work in the various hospitals throughout the length and breath of Guyana. Your invaluable contribution to the overall health care system in Guyana is heartened. The patience, dedication and compassion in which you perform you duties would always leave lasting impressions on those whom you continue to care and nurture.
To the nurses of Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) I say special congratulations and thanks. You work under some of the most strenuous conditions and awkward situations, but yet strive to perform your duties with a deep sense of commitment. I salute you all!
Let me close by again wishing all nurses the best of health and trust that next year we, as a country, will make every effort to celebrate you for what you do everyday.
Once again my sincere congratulations to all of you for continuing to make the ultimate sacrifice, yours is a role many of us cannot play, we, therefore must be grateful to you. God bless you and your family.
