Dear Editor,
I agree with Mr.Vishnu Bisram letter (“Publishing unverified claims, March 27), that information should be checked and verified before publication. Whether it is Freddie Kissoon or anyone else, the cardinal rule is that it is a “no-no” for anyone to publish false information. I also agree with Mr. Bisram that “heads should roll” in such cases. But I strongly disagree with Mr. Bisram in selecting who heads should roll and for what reasons.
It is not right for him to pick and choose, and in this case, everyone knows that he has a serious axe to grind with Freddie. There are a litany of cases where senior government officials and PPP untouchables have violated the laws of Guyana and as I can recall, Mr. Bisram remained silent. Fair is fair and right is right. I would like to hear his pronouncement on a minister whose signature was found on the invoice of the spy equipment that the convicted drug dealer Roger Khan used illegally to spy on innocent Guyanese.
Where is Mr. Bisram’s pronouncement on the President who continues to employ Kwame McCoy, who allegedly broke the law on several occasions? I would like to hear Mr. Bisram’s comments on those ministers and PPP untouchables who violate the laws of Guyana and in the process hurt civilians and are not punished. I would also like to hear Mr. Bisram’s views as to why Mr. Jagdeo refused to have a public inquiry into the murders of more than 300 Guyanese men and women allegedly by agents of the state?
Last but not least, I would like to hear Mr. Bisram’s take on the President whose epic of “cussing down” people who disagree with him continues unabated.
Is this the role of the head of state? Mr. Vishnu Bisram of all persons (with all his degrees, his doctoral studies but is yet to obtain a doctoral degree, and all his teaching and journalistic experiences) should know that what is good for the goose is also good for the gander. If you are calling for the resignation of Freddie Kissoon, then you should also seek the resignations of those PPP untouchables who have shown contempt for the constitution and total disregard for the rights of the people of Guyana. Vishnu, fair is fair and right is right. There can be no substitute for these truisms. You still have time to redeem yourself. “Goat ain’t bite you yet.”
