A Wakenaam carpenter is now patient in the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was reportedly beaten by a group of men, obliquely opposite the Sans Souci Police Station.
This newspaper learnt that Thakur Ramesh, called Kaya, of Melville Alley, was found lying in a pool of blood at the bottom flat of his two-storeyed house by his wife who was awakened by his groans.
He was picked up and rushed to the Wakenaam Cottage Hospital. There he was treated and referred to the West Demerara Hospital. He was then transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
A source told this newspaper that Thakur was earlier seen walking behind a group of men swearing at them for his hat which he alleged they had taken away from him.
He was escorted home by his wife, but the man who lives in close proximity to the Police Station was later seen at a staff party in the compound of the Police Station.
He told his family that as he was leaving the party he was beaten by some men whom he identified. He managed to crawl home where he lay under his house on a couch.
When his wife saw him, his face and chest were swollen, and blood was oozing from his back. Initial checks at the Georgetown Public Hospital indicated that one of his lungs was punctured.
Up to press time, even as tests were being conducted, the man was complaining of severe back pains. He was also experiencing difficulties in breathing. The police have since arrested a group of men.
