Dear Editor,
“This is my first letter to any of the media houses and my love for the game of cricket drove me to make some comments of our present performances.”
Was our Guyana cricket team well selected? I am not a selector, however I do ask if this is the best fifteen (15) players we have with regards to their strengths and placement positions.
The team members presently are Ramnaresh Sarwan (capt), Christopher Barnwell, Devendra Bishoo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Derwin Christian, Esuan Crandon, Royston Crandon, Travis Dowlin, Jonathan Foo, Steven Jacobs, Veerasammy Permaul, Richard Ramdeen, Andre Stoll and Narsingh Deonarine.
However, over and over again we are making terrible mistakes when selecting the final eleven for the field.
For the first two matches, it seems guaranteed that by the 5th over, Guyana would be down by at least three wickets. We are still playing with those openers. Remember that guy who played in Champions Trophy in South Africa for Guyana and was made to play in the late games of that competition? Remember how classy he played when we actually selected him in the final eleven. It is happening again. Yes, he is still sitting on the bench. We are doing it to him again. Here is my question. Which player with regards to that player’s present performance is keeping Richard Ramdeen out of the final eleven?
I sent this letter in on Friday 14th Jan 2011 and by now, as you read this, our game against Combined Colleges and Campuses would be over. Prior to this CCC match, Richard Ramdeen still hasn’t played a game in the first two matches in this Caribbean T20 2011. Nothing against Sewnarine Chattergoon, but I am sure that the Berbicians and all Guyana will agree that Richard Ramdeen should be opening with Travis Dowlin from the first match. Now that Travis has failed, bring in Shivnarine Chanderpaul to open with Richard Ramdeen. Do not leave Shiv in the middle order nor should you drop him.
Where is Brandon Bess? Why wasn’t he selected? Is this the player who West Indies Cricket Board placed in their camp but cannot make our Guyana team? Nice message we are sending.
Why are we always bypassing the prolific all-round performance of Krishendat Ramoo? This guy is on top of his game even if we trace back to my T20 competition at the Guyana National Stadium on July 4th 2010 where he received several awards. He was Guyana’s standby player last year for the South Africa Champions Trophy. Could someone please explain why he could not make the Guyana team this year?
More questions on the tactic, strategy and thinking power of our Guyana cricket team coach.
Once bitten, twice shy but this is getting ridiculous.
All the guys in the team, do your best. That is all that matters.
