Two brothers were killed on the spot shortly after 21:00 hrs last night after the car that they were travelling in slammed into a utility pole on Enterprise Road, Leguan, Essequibo.
Sources identified the dead as Ronald Singh, 23, and Davendra Singh, 18, of Kingston, Leguan.
A passenger, identified only as Nandalall, is said to be in a critical condition.
According to reports, the brothers and the friend had been drinking at a Chinese restaurant to celebrate the elder sibling’s birthday.
Kaieteur News understands that the three were heading home in a car, driven by the elder brother, when he lost control and crashed into a post. One of the brothers was flung out of the vehicle, which ended up in a nearby canal.
Rescuers recovered the other dead sibling from the trench. The friend identified as Nandalall was sitting in the back seat and was apparently spared the brunt of the impact.
The bodies were taken to the Leguan Hospital mortuary. At press time, efforts were being made to transport the badly injured survivor to a city hospital. (See more details in tomorrow’s edition).
