Kris International Bravados recieving their cheque from GT&T Chief Financial Officer Mr. Royston Rachpaul after their win.
Sponsored by Shipping, Regal Stationery and Computer Centre, Imran and sons, GTM, Babulall Mining, PSC wireless, GNSC and Kris international ; Trophy Stall; Anil Wireless; Cell Phone Shack ; Namilco and organized by Guyana Tapeball association in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the Super Sixes competition climaxed last weekend.
Kris International Bravados “B” Team claimed the title under floodlights last Sunday at the Everest ground.
Kris International Bravados “B” team (West Coast Finalist) defeated Lima United (Essequibo North Zone winner) by 6 wkts to be crowned countrywide champions.
Lima United won the toss and batted scoring 31 all out in their six overs with only Davendra Lall with 17 offering any resistance. Mervin Vyphuis took 4-5 from 2 overs of blistering pace, including a hat-trick, which catapulted the Lima Team to their meager total.
In reply Kris International Bravados lost their first wicket, that of (inform) batsman Avenash Sookdeo in the first over delivered by Basdeo Khemraj with the score on 9. Troy Gonsalves the incoming batsman ensured there were no more hiccups as he calmly found the gaps as Kris International Bravados cruised to 32-1 in 4.2 overs. Gonsalves was not out on 24 at the end.
Kris International Bravados “B” collected a cash prize of $500,000 compliments of GT&T and a beautiful trophy donated by PCS wireless. The runner up Lima United collected $200,000 compliments of PCS wireless and a trophy compliments of Ramotar Investments.
Zone winners received $10,000 compliments of Regal Stationery and Computer Centre and trophies compliments of National Hardware, Kris International and GTM. Hampers were given compliments of NAMILCO and other individual prizes were also given which were sponsored by Cell Phone Shack and Hand in Hand.
Medals for the female and under-15 teams which progressed the furthest in the competition were donated by Trophy Stall.
Director of Sport Neil Kumar was on hand to meet the 16 teams and congratulated them for reaching this far and reiterated his Ministry’s commitment to community sports and the building of bridges to allow these communities to integrate whilst congratulating the organisers for the role they are playing in making this possible.
He also made mentioned of the sponsors who saw it fit to come on board to ensure the tournament is successful. The Guyana Tapeball Association’s Secretary Mr. Ramesh Persaud reminded the various teams of the discipline and hard work that is necessary to ensure success is achieved and also he thanked the sponsors for making the GTA Super sixes possible. He wished the teams success and to continue to be role models of their communities.
Meanwhile, in results from the earlier Super sixteen rounds:
Alliance Super 7 were disqualified having played a member of another team thereby sending Kris International “A” through to the quarterfinals.
#2 Die Hard (West Berbice winner) defeated Mahaica Super Stars by 15 runs: # 2 Die Hard batted first and scored 56-4in 6 overs and Mahaica Super Stars were limited to 41-5 in their 6 overs.
Kris International “C” defeated Classic “A”SC (Linden winners) by 5 wkts: Classic “A” made 62-5 and Kris Int’l “B” replied with 64-2 in 4 overs.
Brutal Jammers (West Coast winners) beat Aurora Knight Riders by 13 runs: Trophy Stall/Better Hope defeated Phone Paradise by 4 wkts: Kris Int’l “B” made light work of Wakenaam Heroes by 10 runs. Pomeroon Oil Mills beat Celebrity Times (East Berbice winners) by 7 runs. Lima Sands (North ssequibo) beat Vipers by 34 runs.
Quarterfinals:
Pomeroon Oil Mills beat Kris Int’l “C” by 19 runs. Kris Int’l Bravados “B” beat #2 die Hard by 7 wkts; Brutal Jammers beat Trophy Stall/ Better Hope by 2 runs. Lima United beat Kris Int’l “A” by 35 runs.
Semifinals:
Kris Int’l Bravados “B” beat Brutal Jammers by 5 wkts. Brutal Jammers made 38-5 in 6 overs (Trevor Benn 3-7 from 2 overs) Kris Int’l Bravados “B” replied with 41-2 in 4.1 overs (Nigel Estrado 26).
Lima United defeated Pomeroon Oil Mills by 3 wkts in a game that went down to the wire. Pomeroon Oil Mills made 50-2 in 6 overs (Mukesh Singh 34) In reply Lima United made 54-4 in 5.5 overs (Davendra Lall 17 not out).
In an exhibition game, GT&T 7 defeated a Media7 under floodlights by 17 runs. GT&T 7 batted first and rattled up 73 for the loss of 4 wkts off their allotted 6 overs and Media 7 replied with 56 all out in 5.5 overs.
