Sep 06, 2010 Letters
Dear Editor,
I read with a great deal of interest in the letter column (September 1st, 2010), a letter written by Mr. Hamilton Green: ‘’Response not published’’.
In his letter he mentioned he sent a letter to be published by ‘The Guyana Times’ but his letter was not published. He said he was writing to me about the ‘’misconceptions and inaccuracies about the economy and rice flour etc…..’’
I have read his previous response to me since he seemed to be Mr. Barrington Braithwaite’s advocate trying to defend the corruption of the late Forbes Burnham and his incestuous group of people. I think Mr. Green reminded me about the characters in the political satire ‘’Animal Farm’’ written by George Orwell. He has all the qualities of many of Orwell’s characters by trying to defend a man who destroyed the political, moral, and economic development of Guyana.
In his previous reply to me he was teaching me etymology by trying to remind me of the meaning of the word Reverend. He was even quoting scriptures to justify the wrong doing of Burnham.
He reminds me of the Devil when he tempted Jesus on the mountain by quoting scriptures to Jesus. Mr. Green of all persons should ask himself some very serious questions about his own life and failures under Burnham’s political regime since he was Mr. Burnham’s Prime Minister for Guyana. He should be reminded that when the nation was suffering by starvation he was eating and wearing his best under the dictator’s paradise.
He is trying to deceive this entire nation by telling the Guyanese public that what I had written by Burnham was not accurate when I lived in those times of hardships and sufferings. It’s amazing when I wrote about our present administration the PPP failures that he never responded to me by quoting scriptures. Let me quote the words of Christ to Mr. Green since I am the preacher and not him.
‘’Do onto others as you would have others do unto you.’’
By defending Mr. Burnham’s wrong doing he has become an accomplice of deception. He is trying to inform the Guyanese public that as a Reverend I am lying to the Guyanese public in my previous letters. May I inform him that Mr. Burnham treated his own Afro Guyanese people at Hope Estate worst than the Colonial masters calling himself the Kabaca by riding a horse just like the slave masters; he even imitated their English accent and spoke just like them and deceive people like Green and his contemporaries.
May I reminded Mr. Green that the Afro Guyanese people suffered more under Burnham’s regime when he banned flour because they love to eat their bread and cakes. So what is this rice flour cakes Green is debating about?
A true leader must have his people interest at heart; it means if the President can eat a baked turkey then the citizens of the country must be able to eat the same.
While the black people (Afro Guyanese) suffered many East Indians became rich by bringing in contraband goods from Suriname. We can clearly see the black people suffering until today; hustling on the streets to make ends meet it all started since the Burnham era.
Our political history stinks because it did not help to improve the lives of our citizens. Until today we have constant blackouts, water shortage, heavy taxes like the 16% VAT, while wages and increases are 6% the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer.
Where is this justice Mr. Green is addressing in his letter? I think Mr. Green should ask himself what he has achieved as the Mayor of Georgetown since his tenure in office.
More and more garbage is seen everywhere, more and more touts at the bus parks, more and more gamblers and choke and rob in the streets of Georgetown and the long dismal list can very well gave me my doctoral dissertation.
What has he done as the Mayor to address Georgetown’s beauty that has now become an eye sore to tourists?
He should forget about Burnham and think how he will atone for his personal failures. In my previous letter, I mentioned the progress of a nation is based on the past political history of the nation up to our present political regime.
It seems as if Mr. Green really needs some schooling in politics. He should be the last person to respond to my letters because he is really trying to deceive himself by not accepting the flaws of Mr. Burnham and trying his best to fool the Guyanese public. Its about time he start to do some real repenting.
