Dear Editor,
I would like take this opportunity to express my condolences to the family and friends of teenager Kelvin Fraser who was shot last week on the West Bank of Demerara.
It is never an easy thing for someone to lose a love one, especially a child in the prime of life.
However, there are a few troubling things about this case that need answers to.
Was Fraser a student of the Patentia Secondary School at the time of his death? If so, was he attending school at the time of his death? Who are his teachers? Could they confirm whether he was officially present in school at the time of the shooting?
I would like the Ministry of Education and the school’s officials to provide answers to these questions since there are many rumors and any clarifications at this time would lead to a fuller understanding of the circumstances surrounding his death.

The Education Ministry submitted this response:
The child was indeed a student of Patentia Secondary at the time of his death and was attending school.
He did not formally attend school on the day he was shot. In fact, he was absent from school on the said day but visited during the lunch period to meet his girlfriend.
He was asked to vacate the school’s premises after the lunch break but did not do so. Contrary to what some believe, his class was not asked to stay home to facilitate any examination.
There was whole day school and the other students in his class who attended school that day were marked present.
