… Controversial highway death
Relatives of a man, who is said to be a key eyewitness in the suspected murder of Linden taxi driver Damion Lindore, have alleged that attempts are being made to force the suspect to retract some of the statements which he had made.
Kaieteur News was told that the young man who is familiarly known as “Bolo” was reportedly removed from one station and taken to another station where the other suspects were being detained.
While there, he was allegedly threatened by some of the other suspects, who ‘Bolo’ alleged had killed Lindore.
Kaieteur News was further told that officers took another statement from the suspect, which has now suggested that it was indeed an accident.
The suspect’s mother yesterday told Kaieteur News that she was also very concerned for her son’s safety.
“Why they take him to the station where the other suspects are being kept…they want to harm my son,” the woman lamented.
A close relative of Lindore also told this publication that she could have accepted if the persons whom she believes killed Lindore were not the victim’s friends.
“I would have accepted that he was killed by strangers…..but definitely not by his close friends” cried the woman.
Meanwhile, the dead man’s relatives are also peeved that they are being refused a post mortem report from the Government pathologist.
‘We would like to get the report….so that we could make arrangements to get a second opinion….we believe Damion was murdered and we’ll prove it.”
Another relative who saw the body said that Lindore had a gaping wound to the back of his head and most of his teeth were missing.
According to reports, ‘Bolo’ had alleged that Lindore was bludgeoned to death with an iron bar. Relatives claim that police recovered the blood-stained iron bar in the area where Lindore was slain.
Kaieteur News understands that Kemal McCalmont’s brother, along with the bus driver who was held on Thursday, have been released from police custody.
Three other men who are reportedly linked to the case are still in custody.
A source close to the investigation said that detectives took ‘Bolo’ back to the “accident scene” and also re-examined the “crashed” vehicle on Thursday.
This newspaper was told that ‘Bolo’ had admitted that he was part of a gang of several persons who robbed and killed Lindore before dumping his body on the highway.
The suspect is said to have also told police that they removed several items from the slain man’s car and then damaged the vehicle to make it appear as if he had crashed.
