…as US recalls children’s medicines
United States officials have recalled several children medicines and local authorities are warning consumers to be aware.
The Government Analyst’s Food and Drug Department (FDD), in a statement yesterday disclosed that the US’s McNeil Consumer Health Care, in consultation with Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has voluntarily recalled Children’s and Infant Liquid of Tylenol, Tylenol Plus, Motrin, Zyrtec and Benadryl, which are all made in the US.
Most of the medicines made and are being recalled were distributed in the USA, Canada, Dominican Republic, Dubai, Fiji, Guam, Guatemala, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago and Kuwait.
According to the statements, some of the products may not have met the required quality standard with a percentage containing higher concentration of active ingredients than is specified. Others may also have contained inactive ingredients that do not meet the internal testing requirements.
“While the potential for serious medical problems is remote, it is advisable that consumers desist from using the medicine, as a precaution. A health care provider should be consulted if a child has recently taken any of the recalled products and is experiencing unexpected symptoms,” the Government Analyst said.
The department urged that importers, distributors, wholesalers, pharmacy proprietors, patent shop proprietors, and consumers to make contact with the Institute of Applied Science and Technology at the UG campus if they are in possession of such pharmaceuticals.
