The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) suffered their first loss of the Guyana Football Federation National Super League at the GFC Ground last evening, Sunburst Camptown pounding out a come from behind 3-2 win over their arch rivals to maintain their dominance over the Military team.
Camptown were led to a much needed 3 points by a Devon Forde double with second half substitute Lance Rolston firing in the other.
The GDF took the lead in both instances but the Campbellville boys stood up to the challenge of finding goals when it mattered. Dependable forward Delroy Deen sneaked in the first goal in the 24th minute with the sides going at each other. Devon Forde netted the first of his double 9 minutes after the GDF took the lead to level the score. The equalizer added some life back into the Camptown attack.
Half time saw the score remaining unchanged even as chances were being created but not hitting the intended target. Both sides made changes at varying points during the opening minutes of the half as they sought to grind the opposition into submission. GDF regained the lead in the 65th
minute when substitute Hubert Pedro’s left foot shot sent the ball swirling past the outstretched hands of goalkeeper Maurice Prince who was caught off his line.
But Camptown responded in equally spectacular manner when another substitute, Lance Rolston ripping right foot bomber on the run burst the back of the nets, he having eluded the Army’s weak defence at that point.
The sealer was converted by Forde in the 83rd minute after some good work again in midfield and the attacking third by Rolston.
GDF remains on 11 points from 6 matches while Camptown has doubled its points moving to 6 from 5 games. Defending champions Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United who were down to play Bartica’s Liquid Gold in the feature game last evening which did not come off, is now the only unbeaten team in the League.
Super League action will continue tomorrow at two venues. At the Enmore Ground, Victoria Kings will square off with Rosignol United from 16:00hrs and over at the Wales Community Centre Ground a double header has been fixed.
From 14:00hrs Milerock face Liquid Gold with the feature clash between Bakewell Topp XX and Seawall FC.
