Representative of Gems Productions, Claudette Watts, presents the cheque to Jacquelyn Henry flanked by other members of the SSVP and residents of the Home.
Stanleytown, New Amsterdam – Senior citizens residing at the Good Samaritan Home in New Amsterdam yesterday benefited from a monetary gift from Gems Productions and Ron Robinson of the Theatre Company.
During a simple handing over ceremony at the home, a representative of Gem Madhoo- Nascimento, Ms Claudette Watts, presented a cheque to the President of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society (SSVP), the Catholic non-profit organization which manages the day-to-day affairs of the home for elderly women.
The cheque became a reality after Gems Productions and the Theatre Company made good on their promise to give a portion of the proceeds from the recently held Link Show 26 in New Amsterdam on March 26 and 27 at the Berbice High School auditorium, to the senior citizens’ home.
According to Watts, Mrs. Madhoo-Nascimento had approached her to choose an organization that would need a donation in Berbice, and since she (Watts) is a member of the SSVP, decided to choose the Good Samaritan Home. Receiving the cheque on behalf of the home, Ms Jacquelyn Henry, President of the SSVP in the New Amsterdam area, expressed thanks at the kind gesture of Mrs. Madhoo-Nascimento and her team at the Link Show. “I thank Ms Gem and cast and look forward for any other venture or help”.
When contacted via telephone by Kaieteur News, Mrs. Madhoo-Nascimento stated that giving back to the poor and needy is nothing new for her and the Theatre Company. “We’re happy to go and do the show up there to raise some money and give to the Good Samaritan Home.
“Giving to charity is nothing new for us. Over the years, we’ve always done charitable work in giving proceeds from our shows back to charitable organizations.”
Gems Productions began in 2002, while Ron Robinson’s Theatre Company started way back in 1981. Over the years, the two theatric organizations have teamed up to bring Guyanese the popular and extremely amusing ‘Link Show’ series, among many other productions.
