Action in the Mayor’s Cup football championship continues with back to back contests today and tomorrow at the Georgetown Football Club ground starting from 18:00hrs with double headers.
Today’s contest will feature defending champs Pele Football Club battling Seawall FC in what promises to be a highly entertaining contest. Riddim Squad will collide with Grove Hi Tech in the opening fixture, which also promises to be a good match up.
The feature contest, however, will draw the attention of football fans. Pele known for their mesmerizing ability in championship action will look to successfully defend their title. They have in their line up Travis ‘Zorro’ Grant, Shawn Johnson, Solomon Austin, Mervin Joseph, Sheldon Holder, Quincy Adams and Keoma Gravesande.
These players have to ability to overrun opponents once they are focused. Pele fans will hope that the side come out hungry and put Seawall to the test.
Seawall on the other hand, will have other ideas. Coach Ron Austin will most certainly come with a game plan and look to his charges to execute and surprise Pele. Goalkeeper Marvin Griffith is the last line of defence and will get key support from defenders Delon Josiah, Michael Castello and Steve Felix, while the strike force and midfield includes Cleveland Walcott, Zevon Atkinson, Toine Lopes and Garlon Lewis.
Seawall of the West Demerara are expected to come out fighting and a ding dong battle is anticipated.
The curtain raiser will see Riddim Squad led by the Hope clan, which includes Sherwin, Steffon, Sceyon and Sheldon, with support from Llyton Ramsey, Delon John, Gordon Grant and Amos Ramsey among others going full throttle at Grove Hi Tech. They will depend on John Matthews, Erston France Mervin Squiers and Sherman Doris, who will hope to upset the highly favoured Riddim Squad.
Tomorrow Thursday, another double is set for the GFC ground. BV/Triumph tackle the Guyana Defence Force, while top club Alpha United challenge Victoria Kings in two more exciting games.
