A 41-year-old housewife, Bhagmattie Roopnarine, of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, and her 17-year-old son, a labourer at a sawmill in New Amsterdam, were charged with being in possession of 28 grams of Marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
The duo appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court and was refused bail. The son is to remain in the custody of the police due to his age. According to the prosecutor, Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, the police acting on information on March 13, descended on the premises and conducted a search.
There they unearthed the drugs, which were concealed in a clothespin basket in the house.
The two who were at home were arrested, told of the offence and charged. Attorney at Law Charrandas Persaud is appearing for the duo who will have to return to court on March 30.
