Fifteen persons, 6 females and 9 males, attained the required points and were subsequently successful when the Guyana Football Federation, in conjunction with the Guyana Football Referee’s Council (GFRC) ran off their Introductory Referees Course for aspiring referees at the Old Guyana National Service Sports Complex, Carifesta Avenue last Saturday and Sunday.
One person failed to write the examinations and one person failed to acquire the required pass mark. The participants were required to attain at least a 70% success.
The person that has failed to acquire the required marks will receive a second chance to do so following a decision taken by the organizers to provide additional lectures before allowing the individual to rewrite the exam.
Challius McKennon topped the course for the males after attaining 92% of the marks. Woman Lance Corporal (GDF), Marineika Tabithia Welcome registered an 85% pass to take the honours for women.
Several other participants also performed credibly and included Sean Henry and GDF Staff Sergeant Kwesi Isaacs (90% each), GDF Staff Sergeant Kurt Trotman (87%), GDF Warrant Officer Raul Rodney (86%), Delroy Henry (85%) and Sherwin Moore (84%).
The other successful participants are Gillian Tappin, Tomeka Edwards, Lisa Ann Glasgow, Sergeant Rebeka Alexander (GDF), Uzzi Yisrael, Kenrick Hernandez, and Desmond Joseph. The instructors were Referee Assessors Lawrence Griffith and Roy Mc Arthur.
Meanwhile, activities move to Linden when GFF officials conduct a similar session on Saturday and Sunday, March 20 and 21.
Already, 11 persons have signed up for participation. The Instructors are Lawrence Griffith, Lindley Langhorne, Selwyn Lancaster and Phillip Gibbons.
Subsequently, organizers will travel to Bartica to conduct a similar session on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 March.
Once again the team will be led by Lawrence Griffith with support from Ian Beckles, both FIFA trained referee instructors.
Persons interested in participating may contact the officials of the GFF on tel # 227 8758 or Lawrence “Sparrow” Griffith on tel # 621 6986 or any qualified referee in their location.
