A vocal crowd at Everest, which included Guyana’s Sports Minister and GT&T’s and the Guyana Softball League’s top brass were treated to exciting cricket from the eight of the top teams in the GT&T 10/10 softball cricket competition.
Results:-
Crabwood Creek Unstoppable defeated Cane Field Sports Club by three runs. Batting first, Crabwood Creek Unstoppable posted 96-6 from the allotted 10 overs with Joshua Garnett making 28 and Sasenarine Karran taking 2-15. Cane Field Sports Club fell for 93-3 with Khemraj Sumeer making 35. Garnett took 1-12.
Port Mourant All Stars moved into the next round with a win because of the rules of tournament which prevents games ending in ties.
Superior Woods, chasing 73 for victory, finished on 72 after Port Mourant All Stars scored 72-8 with Naresh Persaud making 35. Balram Roopnarine and Ajay Singh claimed 2-9 and 2-15 respectively for Superior Woods who responded with 72-9 from 10 overs with Navin Singh making 29. Chandraskihar Arjune bagged 2-2.
In the third match of the day, Memorex XI beat Coomacka Mines United by five wickets. Coomacka Mines United made 64 in 10 overs with Andrew Richmond scoring 21. Troy Gittens took a hat-trick in his 3-6, while Vivian DaSilva captured 2-15 for Memorex XI, who responded with 66-5. David Looknauth and Lalbachan Veerasammy led the victory charge with 20 each, while Courtney Pearson (3-5) and Linden Dow (2-9) were the wicket-takers for the losers.
In the final game, Trophy Stall XI whipped Uplifting XI by 46 runs. Trophy Stall made 119-5 with the in-form Jagdesh Deosarran, with a ton in the opening round, smashing 44 and Fazal Rafeek hitting 35. Uplifting never threatened the target and was restricted to 73-6 when the overs expired. Anil Saramoo scored 17, while Dindyal Lakhan took 3-7.
At the Uitvlugt Ground on Sunday Leguan Super Stars defeated Charity Sports Club by 26 runs:
Leguan batted first and scored 87-6 in their 10 overs with Muneshwar Lakhan 17. The best bowler for Charity was Nikita Kumar with 2-12. In reply, Charity SC fell for 61 Mustapha Zaman took 2-14.
In the 2nd match of the day, Cotton Field SC beat D’Edward SC by 9 wkts:
D’Edward SC reached 71 -7 with Mervin Pearson picked up 2-9.
In reply, Cotton Field SC made 72-3 with Suraj Raja blasting 41 not out.
In the 3rd match of the day, El Dorado SC easily got past Wales CDC by 6wkts.
Wales CDC batted first and scored 100-5. In reply El Dorado made 102-6 with Munir Amin hitting an exciting unbeaten 60.
In the Match of the day, Wolf’s Warriors took care of Enmore XI by 23 runs:
Wolf’s Warriors batted first and scored 113-4 with Azad Azeez clobbering 49. In reply Enmore XI were cruising at 65 without loss off 5 overs but with the introduction of Dhanraj Champalall things changed after he took the wicket of Rafiq Khan who made 51 and things spiraled downwards and they eventually ended on 90-7.
Dhanraj Champalall took 2-4.
The Quarter-finals are fixed for Saturday at the Everest ground from 10.00hrs. The Semi-finals and the Finals will be held at Bourda on Sunday and the teams in the Quarter-finals are Crabwood Creek Unstoppables; Port Mourant; Memorex; Trophy Stall XI; Leguan Super Stars; El Dorado SC; Cotton Filed SC and Wolf’s Warriors.
