The Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) revealed yesterday that it has been mulling a slate to put forward at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Elections of its parent body that will be held tomorrow.
President of the GABA, Trevor Rose said that he had given his Executives permission to fish for suitable candidates for the respective posts and he believes that they have done so ahead of the Elections where the slate will be known.
“I gave them the go ahead to meet with a few people. I think they were doing that all the time. I have not met with Bobby yet for him to tell me what’s going on,” Rose told Kaieteur Sport when contacted for comment yesterday.
The GABA President had stated earlier this week that his association will not support the current President (ag.), David Patterson in a willy-nilly manner. Rose had asked Patterson to meet with him to outline his vision for the sport.
He told this newspaper yesterday that Patterson has not met with him since. He
reiterated that he would not like to see the post of Presidency go uncontested, lending more support to the notion that Georgetown will oppose Patterson.
The Linden sub-association had publicly stated its support for Patterson as President of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF). Linden’s head, Abdulla Hamid said that Patterson is always present and knowledgeable.
Georgetown, however, feels differently and when this newspaper contacted Secretary of the GABA, Robert Cadogan for comment, he made it clear that he is not at liberty to divulge the contents of the association’s slate.
Cadogan had hinted last week that they may have opposition for Patterson when he said: “I don’t know that he is the only candidate”. Rose did not talk down a run for Presidency when this newspaper asked him about that ambition.
It seem as though there are some reservations over Patterson from the Georgetown camp and those will be revealed at the AGM tomorrow. The leadership of the federation will be one of the most inflamed subjects of the meeting.
