Dear Editor,
In the workshop for nurses and other health practitioners held recently at Cara Lodge, I was horrified to read in the newspapers that one of the speakers made mention of “certain false arguments” that are proffered when dealing with the migration of nurses.
One argument, put forward, is one offered by some countries that if “We water down the education of nurses’’, then they will not be empowered to leave.”
In my view the architects of such gross and dangerous suggestions should be investigated for such utterances. It is my view that these people are not only backward in their thinking, but also expose the general public to the dangers of a poorly educated nurse.
I am hoping that these people can bury this odious form of thinking and somehow come up with a more intelligent way of dealing with the nursing crisis that besets most developing countries.
