Boxers from the Forgotten Youth Foundation Boxing Gym (FYF) carted off the honours when the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA), in collaboration with the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) staged the first of a series of cards that incorporates the activities of amateur boxers into professional boxing cards.
To this effect, six amateur boxers engaged in three bouts on the recently staged Holland’s Enterprise Promotions ‘New Year’s Beatings’ boxing card at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall Saturday evening last.
In the first bout, in the U-15 category, Seon Griffith (FYF) defeated Jamal Eastman of the Berbice based, Pocket Rocket Boxing Gym (PRBG) by a 3-0 majority. Michael Jordon, also of the FYF, registered a 2-1 victory over Richard Williamson in their bantamweight bout in the junior category, while Devon Boatswain (GDF) forced the referee to halt his fight, in the senior category, against Kelsie George in 1:08 of the third round.
The executives of both associations have promised to continue along this vein in an effort to improve on the flagging fortunes of local boxers.
Meanwhile, affiliates of the GABA would convene for the first statutory meeting for the year at the Olympic House, High Street, Kingston this Wednesday starting at 17:00hrs.
Executives are urging the participation of all stakeholders at this important meeting.
Qualified referees and judges are also asked to make a special effort to attend.
