Ravens Basketball Club collected their $100,000 prize money they won Saturday night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall when they defeated Courts Pacesetters and have expressed disappointment with their opponent’s performance.
The simple handover ceremony was done yesterday at the practice court in Campbellville following which, Coach in the absence of Darcel Harris, Seraiah Clarke indicated that the team is very much “disappointed” in Pacesetters. “Everybody is talking about how we did; how it was a walkover and all that, but we are a lot disappointed in the way Pacesetters came at us after stating that they wanted re-match after their 17-point loss last year,” Clarke indicated.
Ravens had beaten Pacesetters by 17 points last November and returned to inflict another heavy whipping on the team Saturday night with a 20-point (69-49) win a grudge contest that marked the opening of the new Georgetown season.
“They really wanted the grudge match but grudge matches aren’t anything. Our main aim is to be seeded number one in Georgetown, we do not fuss over grudge matches and if we can beat Pacesetters with this attitude, it really shows that something is wrong with Pacesetters,” Clarke continued yesterday.
The former junior national forward and Ravens senior player believes that his inside men, Ryan Gullen, Rudy James and Dwayne Roberts really stepped up in a major way on both ends of the court to hand his team the psychological win.
Clarke believes that Ravens are winning because of their superior basketball structure. It is a fundamental they teach every player that is introduced to the team, he said. They will play Bounty Colts in a Division I game Friday night.
Meanwhile, manager of Windjammer International Hotel, Carey Griffith who had teamed up with the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association to host the game, said that more of such collaborations are foreseeable in the future.
“I’m actually glad that a lot of people came out and that the game was violence free. We will definitely be teaming up to bring more of such events,” Griffith informed, adding, he was impressed with Ravens’ attitude toward the game.
