Dear Editor,
“Haiti needs us now” was the words quoted from the dailies of one of the organiser’s for one of the just concluded relief concert staged in Guyana.
I had a laugh and I say to the mass, “Haiti needed us a long time ago” and it’s really funny that “We are the world” only when a disaster strike. I hope in God’s name that every cent received is forwarded to Haiti.
In another sense, I am sure that all those that were part of concerts meant well, but I would like to remind you that there has been some on going disasters for many years in places like Darfur with famine and genocide in many other areas, orphans in Afghanistan, the forgotten physical challenge orphans now adults in Romania etc. and if I can see more been done and coming from your respective camps on an annual basis from this end of the globe, I will be more proud of your efforts.
Can we now expect an annual concert by the organisers for a different disaster area in time ahead of us? As a start, check with the local UNICEF and Red Cross offices for further details of other disaster areas.
As for the Commander in Chief of Guyana, you were a disappointment with your commentary of dissatisfaction by the US with its relief efforts in Haiti.
Were you on a mission to impress the Iranian Leaders? T. Pemberton.
