To decide on a date for the [AGM] Elections
The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) has summoned the sub-associations to a meeting with the long-overdue Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Elections top on the list of priority subjects up for discussion.
Kaieteur Sport learnt from a reliable source yesterday afternoon that the meeting is set for Sunday and it had been called to discuss “the elections”.
The Georgetown GABF-affiliate has confirmed receipt of the notice of the meeting.
“They sent us a letter for the meeting indicating that it [the meeting] is to decide on a date for the elections among other issues,” Secretary of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA), Robert Cadogan confirmed.
The Federation’s election was supposed to have been early last year, but that was tripped up in the death of President, Retired Colonel Godwin McPherson, who had functioned in GABF post for 19 years before his demise.
First Vice-President, David Patterson rightfully assumed the post and the AGM became a much more eminent feature of the federation.
The election was promised twice with Patterson being the only known candidate for the Presidency.
However, both of those occasions saw cancellations with no plausible reasons given as to why the GABF continues to renege on holding the elections that would give credibility to the federation that governs the sport in Guyana.
Both the GABA and Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) had openly called on the federation to host its elections. This is the only know response since that plea was made. According to the federation’s constitution, 2009 was supposed to have been their election year.
