Guyana playing under the captaincy of Colts United Guard Eion Leitch succumbed two games to one after winning the opening encounter against Barbados in an International Goodwill Series played at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall July of 1993.
In the series opener, Guyana introduced Rookies Lugard Mohan, Ralph Scotland, Lynden Wilson and Rawlwin Loncke, but it was the experienced trio of centre Sean Semple, power forward Leon Christian and small forward Robert Cadogan that gave the Land of Many Waters a respectful 67 to 59 points victory. Semple top scored with 12 points while Christian and Cadogan contributed 10 points each. For Barbados, Roger Branch had 12 points and Adrian Stewart 8.
In game two, Barbados backed by a magnificent performance from London based pro Nigel Lloyd with 32 points, tied the series with a commanding 81 to 74 points victory.
Charles Gill and skipper Dwight Rouse supported Lloyd with 12 and 10 points respectively, while for Guyana rookie Rawlwin Loncke and skipper Eion Leitch top scored with 14 points each, while Leon Christian 10 points, Edgar Thomas and Sean Semple contributed 8 points each.
The deciding game ended on a sour note after Barbadian player Alonzo Grant was struck in the head by a bottle from the stands with 11 seconds remaining on the game clock.
Barbados were leading Guyana 68 to 61, again Nigel Lloyd was the danger man he top scored with 17 points, David Burnette had 14 points and Roger Branch 10 points. For Guyana Sean Semple top scored with 14 points, Rawlwin Loncke 12 points and Edgar Thomas and Leon Christian 10 points each.
