The final round of preliminary matches will be contested tonight when play in the Mayor’s birthday football tournament continues at the Tucville Ground from 6:00pm.
A total ten games will be contested and features several explosive match-ups with teams battling for favourable positions in the standings to earn favourable draws in the knockout stage which opens Friday at the same venue.
The fixtures for tonight will see: Camptown vs Black Pearl, Pele vs Crane, Uitvlugt vs Agricola, Majestics vs Sea Wall, Young Achievers vs Victoria Kings, Fruta Conquerors vs Kitty Rangers, Riddim Squad vs GFC, Alpha vs Santos, GDF vs Uprising and Western Tigers vs Grove Hi Tec.
A number of the teams have similar points and the majority are within striking distance of each other and this evening’s games will certainly see them going all out the cement that positions at the top of the standings and a chance in the knockout stage where they will zero their sights on the lucrative top four prizes.
Several exciting players including Shawn Bishop, Devon Millington and Shawn Arthur will be among those on show tonight.
Coordinator Lennox Arthur noted that many of the players seem not to remember that the no offside rule is in effect in this tournament. He said he expected many more goals to be scored to date. Arthur said he is anticipating more goals from tonight’s and Friday’s action and players should take note of the no offside rule so they don’t have to be afraid to attack.
