While law enforcement officers in Region Two are struggling to combat the recent spate of break and enter that has been plaguing the Essequibo Coast. The real problem lies in the fact that there are not sufficient police officers to investigate these robberies, one police official said.
This statement came after yet another robbery on the Essequibo Coast Tuesday evening. According to reports Hafeez Mohamed was still in his shop at Riverstown, Essequibo Coast around 19:00 hours, when three men, one wearing a mask, barged into the shop and demanded all the cash.
The businessman’s wife said that while she knew nothing of the incident since she was upstairs attending to her baby, she was however made aware of the ordeal after it was all over.
The woman said that her husband told her that one the men pointed a gun at him and demanded all the cash in the drawer. She further stated that after the ordeal all three of the bandits walked out of the yard casually, and then rode off on a motorbike that was parked on the road.
A report was later made at the Suddie Police Station. Mr. Mohamed was told by the police ranks on duty that they could not have ventured out to conduct any investigation because there were no vehicles at the time.
Only five days ago another businessman, Materdeen Etwaroo, of Affiance, was severely beaten in the head with a metal object after he was attacked and robbed by three unidentified men. According to report Etwaroo was in the process of closing the window to his shop when the three men brazenly entered his shop and started to assault him.
They fled empty-handed after an alarm by Etwaroo’s sister Deomattie Shaw.
