Some of the teams that participated in the March Past display, with the Stag Beer banner at the opening.
After a lengthy break of three years, the East Bank Football Association (EBFA) Division one Super League got underway last Sunday at Splashmin’s Fun Park ground with the official opening, including the March Past and first match under sponsors Ansa McAl under that Stag Beer brand.
Several teams would be vying for honours and include Yarrowkabra, Kuru Kuru Lions, Grove, Timerhi, Mocha Champs, Agricola, Riddim Squad, Soesdyke, Kuru Kururu Warriors and Hi Tech.
All were represented at the opening attended by officials of the EBFA including President Wayne Francois and Ansa McAl Assistant Marketing Manager and Stag Beer Brand Manager John Maikoo.
Following the March Past short addresses were done by the previously mentioned pair.
Maikoo noted the absence of the league for three years and said his company was throwing in their lot to aid the promotion and development of the game in that area.
He expressed pleasure at Ansa McAl being given the opportunity at making a positive contribution to the lives of so many youngsters and football.
Francois called on the players to exhibit discipline during the competition and thanked the sponsors for their timely intervention at a time when corporate assistance is necessary for the growth of sports in general.
Meanwhile, one game kicked things off as the proceedings switched to the Timehri Red ground following the opening. In that encounter, Timehri panthers and Grove Hi Tech played out a 1-1 draw. Dominic Garnett (20) was on target to give Grove the early advantage.
However, Orin Skeete (59) negated that edge to lock the scores up to the end.
