The Berbice zone of the National First division 3-day cricket competition commenced last Saturday with 3 matches in the Ancient County while the Corentyne zone is scheduled to commence on November 7.
Highlighting the weekend’s play was the batting performance of the Bermine pair of former national under-19 players Devon Clements who slammed an unbeaten 201 (24 fours and 4 sixes) and Eugene La fleur who made 148 (22 fours and 3 sixes).
The two featured in a third-wicket stand of 301 to help Bermine amass 406-9 in their first innings response to Edinburgh’s 169.
La Fleur, Guyana’s 2008 under-19 Skipper took 6 for 45 from 18 overs in Edinburgh’s innings. By the end of the second day Edinburgh were 160 for 5 in their second innings still 89 runs away from making Bermine bat again. Left-arm-spinner La Fleur picked up two more wickets to take his tally in the match to 8.
Berbice under-15 all rounder Kevin Ramdeen hit 71 for Rose Hall Community Centre, while with former Berbice under-19 pacer Devendra Ramoutar took 6 for 38 from 13 overs for Young
Warriors to restrict Rose Hall Canje to 191 in their first innings. Young Warriors replied with 341-7 declared with Guyana under-19 middle order batsman Seon Hetmyer (82), Berbice batsman Richard Ramdeen (79) and former Berbice batsman Maxie De Jonge (55) leading the way.
By the end of the second day’s play, Rose Hall Community Centre were bowled out for 259 in their second innings with Vedesh Singh top scoring with 88. Maxie De Jonge, bowling medium pace took 4 wickets. Young Warriors will have to score 110 runs in their second inning for an outright win.
Albert Sinclair hit 77 in Police’s first innings of 221 all out against Blairmont Community Centre who by the end of the first of their match, were replying strongly at 103 without loss with Ramesh Budhram unbeaten on 74 .The match at Blairmont will continue on Saturday and conclude on Sunday while the other two matches will conclude on Saturday.
