Ricardo Guyadeen, 36, of Lot 28 Grove, East Bank Demerara and Ramesh Ramsingh, 19, of Section E Long Stelling, East Bank Demerara were both placed on $100,000 bail by Magistrate Priya Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It was alleged that the defendants, between June 1, last, and August 7, conspired with person or persons unknown, and received one Yamaha boat engine, property of Marlon Jones, knowing the article to stolen or unlawfully obtained.
They both pleaded not guilty. They are being represented by attorney at law Mohamed Zafar, who said that both clients have unblemished records. Zafar further asked the court for bail in a reasonable sum.
According to Police Prosecutor, Munilall Seetaram, the virtual complainant works as a trader between the Guyana and French Guiana borders.
Seetaram said that Jones and his crew were robbed of their boat. A report was lodged at the police station.
The prosecutor said that during a sting operation, the police apprehended the defendants trying to sell the engine at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara. They were taken into custody and charged with the present offence.
Bail was not objected to and the defendants are expected to make another court appearance on September 4.
The matter has also been transferred to the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
