Dear Editor,
The police force has taken up harsh but correct measures to curb the behaviour of drivers that disregard the law. This must be commended and encouragement is given to continue the great job.
However, there is a threat that seems to go unnoticed despite the danger it causes. This great threat is cows! Anyone driving through the Diamond/Grove Housing Scheme would encounter this hazardous obstacle. You may even wonder if you took a wrong turn and entered into a pasture.
They sit, run, sleep and graze on our roads oblivious of the dangers. In the night it’s much more difficult to spot those tar-black cows. The frequent accidents involving cows with taxi vehicles are too large to enumerate. Who are to be blamed? Upon an accident the owner of the cow completely vanishes into thin air (nowhere to be found). The police impound the cow until the owner shows up.
The driver has no option than to repair the damages caused, rather than wait on the owner to claim his cow. Though, eventually if the owner of the cow does show up, he bargains for a deal with a rogue officer to gain his property without acknowledging the taxi driver. There is no justice for the go-getting taxi man.
I relate to cows because mishaps involving cows are much more in number, but this madness involves all farm animals. This wrong can’t go on! I implore that strict regulations by the authorities be taken against those farmers that allow their animals to roam the roads creating havoc for drivers. A. Bastian
